Disk full? Here's how to free up space.
When your disk fills up, deleting at random rarely helps — you first need to see what's actually using the space. With FreeSize it takes four steps.
In 4 steps
- 1
Get an overview
Download FreeSize for free, pick your drive and click “Scan”. The treemap and the sorted list immediately show which folders take up the most space — largest first.
- 2
Find the space hogs
Work down from the top. Typical culprits are downloads, old backups, the recycle bin, and temporary files and caches. On Windows often hiberfil.sys or the WinSxS folder, on the Mac the Library/Caches folder.
- 3
Clean up deliberately
Click a suspicious item to open it directly in Explorer or Finder, check it, and delete what you no longer need. FreeSize performs a read-only analysis and never deletes anything itself — you stay in control.
- 4
Stay on top of it
So it doesn't fill up again, FreeSize Pro can monitor your drives in the background and alert you before space runs low.
Quick tips
- Empty the recycle bin first — deleted files otherwise keep taking up space.
- Move large, rarely used files to the cloud or an external drive.
- Back up important data before starting bigger clean-ups.
